Reverse Osmosis Water is Acidic and Unhealthy

Growing concern over tap water quality is making people turn to various filtration systems. Reverse osmosis (R.O.) is a system that became popular in the 1970s. A number of companies that produce bottled water are using RO a process that forces water through a permeable membrane that filters contaminants. If the contaminants are larger than water molecules they will be filtered out, but anything smaller will not.

Reverse osmosis water has one advantage over tap water: Unhealthy contaminants such as arsenic, nitrates, sodium, copper, and lead are removed. Organic chemicals and fluoride are also removed.

There are, however, disadvantages to drinking R.O. water:

  • Most mineral particles are larger than water molecules and sodium, calcium, magnesium, and iron are removed by the semi-permeable membrane. The World Health Organization stresses that studies have shown that the health risks associated with drinking de-mineralized water include gastrointestinal issues, joint and bone density issues, and cardiovascular disease.

  • R.O. water is tasteless.

  • Primarily, reverse osmosis water is acidic and that does not help the body. The blood needs a healthy pH balance and is slightly alkaline and RO water is often well below 7.0pH.

  • During testing reverse osmosis water is acidic and the levels may vary depending on the R.O. system used. These can range between 3.0 pH (acidic) - 7.0 pH (neutral), but in most cases, it is between 5.0 and 6.0 pH. Most Reverse Osmosis water is acidic and rarely reaches a pH of 7.0 unless a re-mineralization element is added.

  • If the body has a higher level of acidity it is known as acidosis and this is considered to be one of the major underlying causes of degenerative diseases.

  • R.O. does not remove volatile organic chemicals (VOCs), chlorine, chloramines, synthetic chemicals, and pharmaceuticals from drinking water. There are some systems that have a multi-stage filtration which helps remove chlorine and some pesticides.

The discovery, that acidosis causes a lack of cellular oxygenation and leads to cancer, won Dr. Otto Warburg a Nobel Prize in 1931. Since then medical research has continued to prove that the consumption of acidic beverages, including water, cause mineral imbalances.

The study conducted by WHO also showed that the consumption of low mineral water also increases diuresis (urine production) by an average of 20%. This increases the release of sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, and magnesium ions from the body. These are all minerals which are needed by the body and the consumption of R.O. water is not helping to replace them.

In Conclusion:

If you are currently the owner of an R.O. system, then perhaps it is time to look at finding another type of filtration system or other drinking water alternatives. At Lucid Water Co., we have the best alternative to RO water, mineral rich filtered water that tastes great. Visit our website: https://www.lucidwaterco.com/ or contact us to find out more.
